DUE WEST, S.C. – For the second year in a row the Coker men’s soccer team will play for the Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship, thanks to a thrilling 1-0 victory over the #2 seed Erskine College on Friday night. Tyler Senecal (Mt. Pleasant, N.C.) scored the Cobras game winner in the semifinal game.

Coker also won last year’s semifinal match with a 1-0 score, sending them to their first ever Conference Carolinas Tournament final. Now one year later, a 1-0 victory leads the Cobras back to the final match yet again.

It was a very physical match with 24 total fouls called and nine total cards issues. Senecal managed to crack the Flying Fleet defense long enough to score the lone goal of the match with an unassisted goal in the 24th minute of play.

James Sweeney (Huntingtown, Md.) earned the shutout in the net for the Cobras, having to make just one save.

The Cobras will now wait to see who they will face in the finals. Due to snow in Banner Elk, N.C., the scheduled match between the #1 seed Lees-McRae and the #5 seed Pfeiffer was postponed until Saturday at noon. As Coker is the #6 seed in the tournament, the Cobras will have to travel to either Lees-McRae or Pfeiffer for the finals on Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
