HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Brendan McCarron (Tampa, Fla.) and Rommel Fondin (Palm Bay, Fla.) each scored a goal to lead the Coker Cobras to a 2-0 victory over Chowan University on Saturday night in the Cobras 2010 Homecoming match. The win improves the Cobras to 5-2-2 on the year.

The Cobras applied heavy offensive pressure the entire match outshooting the Hawks 24-1, with 11 of those shots on frame. Coker netted the first goal of the game in the 39th minute when Fondin sent a corner kick into the box and McCarron headed the cross past Chowan’s Scott Cullen.

With a 1-0 lead heading into the second half, Fondin gave the Cobras some insurance in the 67th minute with a penalty kick goal.

Cullen had an outstanding match for the Hawks with nine saves, while Coker’s James Sweeney (Huntingtown, Md.) earned the shutout.

Coker returns action on Monday for a Conference Carolinas match against Barton College. The Cobras will host the Bulldogs at the Coker Soccer Field starting at 5:30 p.m.
