HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker’s sophomore Rommel Fondin (Palm Bay, Fla.) scored his second game winning goal for the Cobras in as many games Monday when the Cobras defeated the Florida Tech Panthers 1-0 in men’s collegiate soccer action.

After a scoreless first half, Fondin got Coker on the board in the 65th minute with a goal off a free kick. The free kick came after a FIT foul and yellow card by Roderick Blevins (Maryville, Tenn.).

The Panthers held a sizeable advantage in shots, 16-6, but Coker’s James Sweeney (Huntington, Md.) was spectacular in the goal making 10 saves.

FIT’s Nick Robinson (Victoria, Australia), Gary Ogilive (Hullbridge, England) and Ricardo Menendez (Parkland, Fla.) each had four shots to pace the Panthers, while Fondin had two total shots for the Cobras.

The Cobras are now 2-0 on the year, while FIT falls to 1-1.

Coker returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 8 when they travel to USC-Aiken for a 7:00 p.m. match, while Florida Tech hosts Palm Beach Atlantic at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 10.
