Hartsville, S.C. – Mike Crook’s indirect kick goal in the 48th minute gave the Coker Cobras 2-1 lead and eventually led the Cobras to their 2009 Homecoming victory over Southern Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon. This marks the second straight Homecoming victory for Coker in the last two years.  The Cobras are now 8-1-2 on the year, while the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan drop to 3-3-2.

The Warriors struck first with a goal in the 17th minute as Nicolas Luque found the back of the net on an indirect kick with an assist from Mario Melendez. Coker answered in the 25th minute with a blast from outside the 18 yard box from Daniel Shrizad (Orlando, Fla.) tying the game at one apiece. The game remained tied through the rest of the first half.

Then just three minutes into the second half Crook’s (Bradenton, Fla.) goal with an assist from Rommel Fondin (Palm Bay, Fla.) gave the Cobras all the lead they would need.

The Coker defense was able to hold off the Warrior attack for the remaining 42 minutes, with goalkeeper James Sweeney (Huntingtown, Md.) making three saves in the match.

Coker returns to action on Oct. 6, when they travel to Limestone College for a 4:00 p.m. match.
