Hartsville, S.C. – Matthew Jarrett (Roswell, GA) gave Coker a 3-2 overtime victory in their final regular season Conference Carolinas match, scoring a golden goal in the 97th minute of overtime play against Barton College on Monday night. Jarrett put home his game winning goal off a rebound from a direct kick by Daniel Shrizad (Orlando, FL) that hit the crossbar and bounced out to Jarrett. The win improves the Cobras to 7-10-2 overall, and 3-6-1 in the conference, while Barton falls to 2-15 overall, and 0-9 in the conference.

The Cobras jumped out to an early two goal lead in the first half behind one-timer goals Don Jackson (Bradenton, FL) with an assist from Jarrett and another one-timer from Russell Hill (Monroe, NC) with an assist from Shrizad. Coker held the 2-0 lead through the first half, until the Bulldogs tacked on two of their own in the second half.

Barton’s first goal came off the foot of Kieran McGurk in the 48th minute, as he blasted a shot from nearly 25 yards out over the head of Coker keeper Ryan Lewis (Satellite Beach, FL). Then when it looked as if the Cobras had the win, Fernando Guzman found Chris Tripp with a long cross into the box for a one-timer to tie the match at two.

Then it was Jarrett’s overtime heroics that gave Coker the win and puts them in place to advance to the Conference Carolinas playoffs. The Cobras are currently on seventh place in the standings, just one point ahead of Erskine and Mount Olive as they head into the final weekend of conference play.

Barton keeper, Brian Riesenberg had an outstanding night even in the loss, making 14 saves, while Coker’s Lewis had four saves in the match.

Coker returns to the field on October 29, as they travel to face non-conference opponent USC-Aiken at 7:00 p.m., while Barton will take on Pfeiffer in their final conference game on October 30 at 7:00 p.m.
