MOUNT OLIVE, N.C.-Sean Keener scored the only goal for the Trojans on assists from Chris McClaugherty and Anthony Payne as the Trojans take Coker into two overtimes to finish with a tie in Conference Carolinas men’s soccer Wednesday night at Amon Field.  This is the second tie in a row for the Trojans this season.

Mount Olive (8-4-2, 2-3-2) outshot Coker (4-9-2, 1-5-1) 14-10, but was out-corner kicked by the Cobras 8-4.  Keener’s goal came in the first half and Coker’s in the mid-second half.  On a Trojans’ stop, Chris McClaugherty played the ball from inside the Coker half to Payne in the Coker third, who crossed the ball over to Keener to put it over the Cobra keeper and into the back of the net.

Both teams failed to capitalize on key opportunities.  In the first 11 minutes of play, Coker midfielder Mike Crook went one on one with Chris Slaughter and was denied.  At 38:15, Coker got a restart and sent the ball into the box. Slaughter jumped at the ball and on the rebound a Cobra forward tried to put the ball in the back of the net, but was interrupted by a jump kick save from Nate Parriott.  Both keepers recorded five saves in 120 minutes played.

Crook scored the only goal for Coker on assists from Ben Beetch and Marc Merenga.

Mount Olive returns to action October 17 when the Trojans host Francis Marion in Southeast Regional play.  Match time is 7 p.m.
