Hartsville, S.C. – Mars Hill used four unanswered goals to propel themselves to a 5-1 victory over Coker in men’s collegiate soccer on Sunday afternoon. The win improves the Lions to 7-7 overall, while the Cobras drop to 4-9-1 on the season.

The Cobras, who with the loss suffered their second largest goal differential of the season, played a new line-up in the match, giving many key players some needed rest after a big win over Erskine on Saturday and a full week of Conference Carolinas matches ahead of them.

Coker was able to strike first, with Mike Crook (Bradenton, FL) finding the back of the net in the 18th minute, but just two minutes later the Lions evened the score. Troy Cole netted Mar Hill’s first goal in the 20th minute, while Giovanni Mainati gave the Lions the lead with an assist from Ernest Sobers in the 28th minute. The score remained 2-1 into halftime, but the second half saw Mars Hill turn up the heat and the scoring.

Sobers scored the first goal of the half in the 58th minute, with Rury Caulfield scoring the second goal of the half, just a minute later. Caulfield put away his second goal of the match with a little assistance from Rafael Berrios in the 75th minute, giving the Lions the easy 5-1 win.

Coker will now prepare for their next match, a conference match-up against Mount Olive on Wednesday, at 7:00 p.m.
