Hartsville, S.C. – COBRAS WIN! In the 94th minute of the 2008 Centennial Homecoming match at Coker College, Dennis Gonzalez (Orlando, FL) netted the game winner to defeat King College 2-1. Gonzalez’s overtime goal, his second of the game, gave the Cobras their first Homecoming victory in recent years. The win improves the Cobras record to 3-7-1 on the year, while King falls to 5-5-1 overall.

King was first to strike, scoring the first goal of the game just 11 minutes into the match, as Alex Mendy beat Joel Tyson (Irmo, SC) to give the Tornados a 1-0 lead. But the Coker defense was impenetrable for the next 83 minutes of play.

Gonzalez tallied the equalizer of the match in the 46th minute of the second half, with an assist from Mike Crook (Bradenton, FL). It would take numerous chances on both sides of the field and another 48 minutes to decide a winner, and it was Gonzalez striking again, as he beat the Kings goalkeeper one-on-one, bring home the Coker victory.

Coker returns to the field on Tuesday, October 7, as they travel to Pfeiffer University for a 2:00 p.m. match.
