Hartsville, S.C. – Coker College Head Men’s Soccer coach, Robert Lane, announced the 2008 team captains on Friday. Seniors Joel Tyson and Dennis Gonzalez, along with junior Beeze Chastain have been selected as the team captains based on a vote by team members.

"Although these three clearly have lead by example both on and off the field, it was pleasing to see that so many guys received votes from their peers," said Lane. "This group of captains is committed to helping this program grow and pushing their teammates to help them succeed both on the field and in the classroom."

Tyson, a goalkeeper from Irmo, S.C. majoring in History, will anchor a Cobras backline that has three new faces this season, but a extensive playing experience. Last season Joel played more minutes than any other Coker goalkeeper.

Gonzalez is a defender from Orlando, Fla., majoring in Business. Having played various positions at Coker and having battled through injuries over his four years, Dennis begins the 2008 season healthy and ready to control the field from the center back position.

Chastain is a native of Moonville, S.C., majoring in Physical Education- Sports Management. His work ethic and dedication earned him the Coaches’ Award last season, while he played in all 18 games, recording two assists. A hard worker, on and off the field, Beeze has more than earned the respect of his fellow teammates.

The Cobras open the 2008 season on Friday, August 29, as they travel to University of North Carolina Pembroke to face the Braves at 7:00 p.m.
