BELMONT, NC (October 14, 2006) – Belmont Abbey junior forward Luis Arrieta scored two goals, junior defender James Owusu and senior defender Sal Cornetta score their first goals of the year, and senior midfielder Nick Wyatt registered three assists as the Crusaders shutout Coker College 4-0 this afternoon at Alumni Field. The Abbey improves to 11-4-2 overall and 6-1-2 in the CVAC as it records its third consecutive win, while the Cobras fall to 3-12-0 overall and 2-6-0 in the CVAC.

The Abbey oushot the Cobras 19-5 and it got on the board first in the 22nd minute. Wyatt flipped a pass to Owusu in the left side of the penalty area, and he pushed a right-footed shot past Joel Tyson for his first career goal.

That was all of the scoring in the first half, and Arrieta added an insurance goal at exactly 59 minutes. Sophomore defender Kyle Fenner shot a pass to Wyatt, who sent it ahead to Arrieta, and he drilled home a left footed shot from the top of the box for his CVAC leading 15th goal of the year, and it extended the lead to 2-0.

1:10 later, the Abbey made it 3-0 as Cornetta buried his first goal of the year on a penalty kick, which was awarded after sophomore midfielder Paul Goding was pulled down hard from behind just inside the penalty area.

A minute and fourteen seconds after that tally, Arrieta struck again on a free kick from 25 yards out. After a foul on Coker, Wyatt pushed the ball to Zelaya, who teed it up for Arrieta, and he tucked in a shot inside the left post for his second goal of the afternoon.

The Abbey had several other solid scoring chances, as Wyatt looped a shot in the 82nd minute that hit the post, and senior Kyle Conrad, one of four seniors (Wyatt, Cornetta, and Juan Calderon) hit the crossbar with 33 seconds left.

This was the third straight contest in which the Abbey has scored three goals in the second half. Previously, the Crusaders had erased 1-0 halftime deficits to defeat Anderson 3-1 last Saturday, and Mount Olive two days ago. The four goals are the most in a match for the Crusaders this season.

Brian Alenky made two saves in the net for the Crusaders, while Tyson collected six.

The Crusaders are back in action Wednesday when it hosts Lees-McRae at 3:00 p.m.
