Newberry, S.C. - The Newberry College Indians halted a three-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over the visiting Coker College Cobras in NCAA Division II Men's Soccer action here Sunday.

Newberry was paced by Debola Ogunseye (Lagos, Nigeria), who picked up three point on a goal and an assist. Senior goalkeeper Bryan Linn, allowed no goals in the 86 minutes he played, and made seven saves.

Kyle Rudder (Arima, Trinidad) scored first for Newberry (3-3-0, 0-1-0 SAC), by heading in a Jeff Hinshaw cross from the left side off a free kick in the 19th minute. The goal was Rudder's first of the season, and his first since the 2004 season.

Brandon Baker (Conway, S.C.) scored the game-winner less than four minutes later. Ogunseye headed a flick on to Jeffrey Taylor (Sumter, S.C.), who earned an assist by passing on to Baker for an easy goal. The goal was Baker's first of the season, and second of the sophomore's career. Baker's first goal also came against Coker in 2005.

Ogunseye sealed the victory in the 69th minute on an assist from Taylor. Ogunseye beat the offside trap, and slotted the ball past Coker goalkeeper Nathan Scales to give Newberry the 3-0 advantage.

Coker (1-4-0) pulled a goal back in the 87th minute. Joel Tyson took advantage of a defensive mix-up and sent a low cross to Matthew Jarrett, who put the ball in the lower left corner of the net for the consolation goal.

Newberry outshot Coker 19-16 in the game, with 10 shots on frame. Coker held the advantage in corner kicks, 3-1, but were unable to capitalize on their chances.

Newberry's next match comes on Saturday, when the Indians host Mars Hill College with a 4 p.m. kickoff. The Newberry/Tusculum match originally scheduled for Wednesday will not be played due to the cancellation of Tusculum's season.

Coker travels to St. Andrews Presbyterian College on Tuesday for a 4 p.m. start in their CVAC opener.
