GAFFNEY, SC:  The Limestone men’s soccer team played a great senior day game against Coker College Saturday afternoon.  The Saints lost to the Cobras 3-2.

After honoring seniors Trey Burns and Jason Baker, Limestone got off to a great start with Tom Beattie finding the back of the net midway through the first half.  That goal was assisted by Joel Moran.  The Saints kept the

1-0 lead going into the break.

With 18 minutes left in regulation, Coker went on a scoring spree.  The Cobras netted 3 goals in the span of 3 minutes to take a 3-1 lead.  Coker’s goals were scored by Jake Heath assisted by Chris Freeman, Matthew Jarrett, and Justin Potter.  Potter’s goal was off a penalty kick.  Beattie added his second goal of the game for Limestone on a penalty kick less than 2 minutes later to lessen the differential to 1.

The Saints poured on the pressure, but were unable come up with the equalizer.  Coker took the game 3-2 for their first conference win of the season.

“This was a tough game for our seniors to go out on,” said Head Coach Eric Alsop.  “We know how much potential this team has, and how closely we played with almost every team this season.  The team is only losing two seniors, and the rest of the squad will start preparing for next season.”

Limestone and Coker will both take a rest for the next few weeks, and return to the practice field in the spring.
