Hartsville, SC- The Coker Men’s Soccer Team extended their losing streak to 10 games as they lost 2-1 to Newberry College on Wednesday night in collegiate soccer. Coker is now 2-10 overall, while Newberry improved to 7-6-2.

 

Coker looked to be on the right track early as freshmen Chris Freeman/ Clemmons, NC, and Nick Shaver/Irmo, SC, hooked up for the Cobras lone goal in the 39th minute of the game. Freeman lofted a cross toward the back post that Shaver headed past keeper, Terrance Dieterich. Coker held the lead for the rest of the half, but Newberry would strike back in the second half.

 

In the 64th minute the Indians got even when Edsel Rudder fed a pass to Brandon Baker beating Coker keeper Brent Washburn/Barnwell, SC, and tying the game at one. Seven minutes later Newberry struck again, this time William Koch and Jeffery Taylor recorded the assists, as Chad Domis got the goal and Newberry went up 2-1. The Indians held the lead for the final twenty minutes and took home the victory. Dieterich had six saves in the game, while Washburn had two.

 

The next game for the Cobras will be on Saturday, October 22, as they travel to play conference opponent Erskine College in Due West, SC at 7 p.m.
