Hartsville, SC- Both the Coker soccer teams took hard losses to Belmont Abbey in collegiate soccer on Saturday. The Coker women drop to 4-3 overall, and 1-1 in the CVAC, with the 2-0 loss. While the men slip to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in the CVAC after a gut wrenching 2-1 double overtime defeat.

In the men’s game defense was key also, as the game had to be decided with two overtime periods. Coker did strike first, but not until the 67 minute mark when sophomore Jake Wyman/Bradenton, FL, lofted a ball to fellow sophomore Olivier Harper/Orlando, FL, who flicked a header over the keeper from just inside the 18 yard mark for the goal. However, Belmont Abbey would soon recover scoring just four minutes later when Nick Wyatt scored off a corner kick. The score would remained tied at one through the rest of regulation and one overtime period. It wasn’t until the second overtime that Kyle Fenner found the back of the net off a direct kick to win the game for the Crusaders.

The Cobra soccer teams take to the field for another CVAC match-up as they travel to Queen’s University this week. The women’s game will be on Tuesday, September 20, at 4 p.m. and the men’s game will be on Wednesday, September 21, at 4 p.m.
