HARTSVILLE, SC – Coker sent its seniors out with a bang Wednesday night with a 6-0 victory over Limestone college in men’s collegiate soccer.  With the win CC clinches a birth in the CVAC Tournament starting next Tuesday.  The Cobras improve to 2-10-1 overall and 3-5-1 in the CVAC, while the Saints fall to 3-12, 2-7 in Conference.

Senior Aron Taylor/Florence, SC scored his first career goal in the 6th minute to put Coker up 1-0.  Taylor headed home a corner kick from junior Andres Webb/Cayman Islands

The rest of the match turned into the Gibson Baafour/North Augusta, SC show, as the senior scored the next four goals, a career high.  Baafour struck first in the 22nd minute, when he ran into the box from the left, beat a defender and drilled a shot into the side netting.  In the 42nd minute Baafour faked a pass back inside the box and, with his back to the goal, fired a shot past the surprised goalie.

Baafour got his hat-trick in the 61st on a cross from sophomore Justin Potter/Houston, TX, and added his last 14 minutes later.   This time he put a rebound in after Potter’s free kick slammed off the cross bar.

Potter completed the scoring in the 78th minute with the goal of the year.  The defender moved forward on a corner kick and crushed a volley from 25 yards out that headed for the top corner and then dipped down past the keeper.  The fantastic shot drew a roar from the crowd and capped off the scoring.

Coker held a 20-13 advantage on shots and had eight corner kicks to the Saint’s three.  Junior Aaron Osteen/Black Mountain, NC earned his first shut out of the year with six saves.  Mike Stratford of Limestone made seven saves.

The Cobras last game of the regular season is this Saturday, October 30, at Belmont Abbey College at 4:00 PM.
