
Men's Lacrosse Drops Heartbreaker to Catawba Wednesday Night
HARTSVILLE, S.C. - Coker University men’s lacrosse dropped a heartbreaker to Catawba Wednesday night (Apr. 13) in South Atlantic Conference action by a score of 10-9.
HARTSVILLE, S.C. - Coker University men's lacrosse dropped a heartbreaker to Catawba Wednesday night (Apr. 13) in South Atlantic Conference action by a score of 10-9.
Catawba got the scoring started three and a half minutes in, before Henry Haskett got the Cobras on the board unassisted just past the five minute mark. Catawba re-gained the lead just 39 seconds later, before back-to-back Justin Beighey goals a minute apart gave the Cobras the 3-2 lead. The Indians responded with two straight goals, before Augie Ford tied the game at four with just over two minutes to play in the quarter. The Indians took a 5-4 lead to the second off a late goal.
Haskett completed the hat trick early in the second quarter with back-to-back goals to give the Cobras a 6-5 lead, before Catawba tied things back up with five minutes gone in the frame. Cal Gibson scored off a clutch assist from Ethan Hofert to put Coker ahead 7-6 with seven minutes to play in the half, before Catawba rallied for two goals late in the period to take an 8-7 lead to the half.
Catawba scored the first two goals of the third to go ahead 10-7, before Gibson scored unassisted to get the Cobras back within two headed to the fourth.
Beighey scored the final goal of the game on the man-up from Gibson with five and a half minutes to play to bring the game to its final score, as the Cobras held the Indians off the scoreboard in the fourth quarter.
Beighey and Haskett each registered hat tricks in the game, while Gibson scored twice and Ford also notched one goal. Gibson also dished out two assists in the game, while Haskett, Sean Moran and Hofert each helped on one Coker goal. Coker out-worked Catawba for ground balls 35-22, led by a game-high 13 from Nathan Allan. 10 others registered ground balls in the game for the Cobras. Will Pollok caused a team-high three turnovers in the game, while Gibson, Allan and Jake Brundage each forced two turnovers in the game. Haskett and Hofert also each recorded one caused turnover in the game. Hofert also made 12 saves between the pipes.
