Murphy Leads Late Comeback as Cobras Fall Just Short Against Florida Tech

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker College lacrosse team put up a valiant effort on Sunday (Feb. 10), falling to Florida Tech 10-7 after coming back from an 8-0 deficit.

The Cobras were stifled early in the game and the first half was all about the Panthers as they rallied off seven goals in the first half to take a 7-0 lead into the half.

Coker would find life in the third quarter after giving up an opening goal as Ethan Irizarry fired a shot into the back of the net to finally put the Cobras on the board. Florida Tech would respond with a goal of their own before Joe Venazio laid out to redirect an Ethan Ramsey pass by the Florida Tech goalie and cut the Panther lead back down to seven late in the third quarter.

Denton Wilks got the scoring started in the fourth quarter before Matt Murphy fired a pair of goals past the Panther goalie to cut the deficit to just four. Shortly after, the Panthers pulled one back but Lucas Hediger responded by scoring a goal for Coker to make it a four point game once again. Murphy got in on the action once again with a man-up goal with 2:35 remaining to pull the Cobras within three goals late in the game but that would be it as they fell 10-7.

The Cobras will be back in action on Saturday (Feb. 16) when they travel to Embry-Riddle for a non-conference game starting at 1:00 PM.
