Fourth-Seeded Cobras Play Host to Pioneers in SAC Men’s Lacrosse Quarterfinals

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – For the third-straight season, the Coker College men's lacrosse team is apart of the South Atlantic Conference Men's Lacrosse Championship. The Navy and Gold's run for the tournament title will begin on Tuesday (Apr. 26) when they host the visiting No. 5 seed Tusculum College Pioneers in the quarterfinals. Opening face off is set for 4 p.m. with live stats and video will be available at www.cokercobras.com

The Cobras hold a 3-0 record over Tusculum, with the last two matchups being 11-10 overtime wins.

The Cobras are the No. 4 seed and are led on the offensive side of the ball by the duo of Mike Martiello and Shane Wilson. Martiello's 66 points this season are second in the SAC and a team-high, while his 36 assists are also second in the conference. Wilson leads the conference with 47 goals and is fourth with 51 points. Rylee Marsh and Josh Smith have each handed out 10 assists this season, with Marsh scoring 17 times and Smith 13 times. Brooks Long comes in with 12 goals on the season, one being the game-winner the last time these two teams met. On the defensive side of the ball, DeShaun Ormond and Patrick Timothee lead the way with 21 and 20 caused turnovers apiece. Both rank inside the top-five in the SAC in the caused turnover category.

In the cage, Anthony Malik has 99 saves in just over 600 minutes this season.

The Pioneers come into the matchup with a 4-9 overall record and a 3-5 SAC record. They are led by the 26 goals and five assists of Dallas Wade.

Opening face off is set for 4 p.m. at the Coker Athletic Field, with gates opening at 3 p.m. Tickets will available at the gate. Ticket prices are $6 for adults, $3 for children under 12, seniors 55 and over and active/retired military and $2 for college students with college ID.
