Cobras Unable to Overcome Slow Start

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker men's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference game to former conference foe Mount Olive 13-6 on Saturday (Mar. 1) in men's lacrosse action.

The trio of Mike Martiello, Timothy Smith and Andy Campos each scored two goals on the day to lead the offense for the Cobras. Leading Coker defensively was freshman Patrick Timothee with three ground balls and one caused turnover. Tim Ryan had another good day between the pipes registering 20 saves on 33 shots placed on goal.

The Cobras defensive effort from their previous game was on hand early in the first quarter as Mount Olive was held scoreless the first 13 minutes of the game. However, the Trojans would break the stalemate with two goals in the last two minutes of the first period. The second period would be more generous to the Navy and Yellow as they put away three goals, but the Trojans would find the back of the net five times themselves in the second period to take an 7-3 lead into the break.

The Cobras' lack of offense would follow them into the second half as they only managed three goals the rest of the game. Mount Olive would tag on six goals in the second half to give them the 13-6 non-conference win.

The Navy and Yellow will return to the field on Wednesday (Mar. 5) when they host the Queens University of Charlotte Royals in a South Atlantic Conference showdown. The game is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start at Byerly Park.
