Coker College Men's Lacrosse Adds a Pair for 2012-13

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker College men's lacrosse coach Tony Smith announced today that Ryan Maurer and Gray Hedgecock have agreed to play for the Cobras.

Maurer, a 5-foot-7-inch offensive player, is transferring from Suffolk County Community College (SCCC) in Selden, N.Y., where he spent two seasons and compiled 70 points during that span.  He is the third transfer student to come play lacrosse from SCCC, joining current Cobras Steve Marciano and Alex Salpeitro.

"Ryan is a versatile player that can play attack or midfield," said Smith. "He will be a big help offensively, and I anticipate major production from him in that area."

Maurer is originally from Mount Sinai High School in New York. He participated in lacrosse, soccer, track and bowling. Ryan is the son of Alan and Maureen Maurer.

Hedgecock is from Spring Valley High School in Columbia, S.C., where he was a member of the 2012 Region IV AAAA lacrosse championship team. He is a 6-foot-1-inch defensive player.

"Gray has the size and athletic ability to compete for playing time right away," Smith said. "I expect him to hit the ground running this fall with the Cobras."

Gray is the son of Glenn and Brenda Hedgecock.
