The Coker men's golf team had another exceptional season, recording six top-five finishes, including a second straight win at the Queens Collegiate Invitational. The Navy and Gold finished with a team record-low scoring average of 292.22.  The Cobras were ranked as high as 17th in the nation by Golfstat, with Wanjoo Lee received a ranking as high as 51st.  Goins coached Lee to an All-SAC selection, a first-place finish at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate, and a berth in the NCAA DII Men's Southeast Regional. Goins team filled the records book with Zach Herold shooting the second-highest round in school history, a 65 at the Queens Invitational, and the team breaking it's Par 5 scoring record with an average of 4.8145.

The Coker women's golf team notched six top-ten finishes including a win at the Converse Invite by FoundersFCU in September. The Navy and Gold turned in a scoring average of 321.74, good enough for second all-time in Coker history. Goins now owns the top two team scoring average seasons in Coker women's golf history. The team also set records in Par 3 scoring (3.4821), Par 4 scoring (4.6063), and Par 5 scoring (5.4606). Goins coached Tayler Meyers to the best round in Coker women's golf history, when she shot a 72 in the second round of the Converse Invite by FoundersFCU.

Goins led the Coker men's golf team to another excellent season in 2016-17, with the Cobras recording seven top-five finishes, two runner-up finishes, and one win, which came at the Queens Collegiate Invitational. The Navy and Gold finished runner-up at the 2017 South Atlantic Conference Championship Tournament, falling to Carson-Newman University in a four-hole playoff. The Cobras advanced to the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional Tournament as a team for the first time since the 2011-12 season. Senior Taylor Ingle was named second team All-SAC, while sophomore Wanjoo Lee won the individual title at the SAC Championship, giving Coker the individual champion for the second-straight season. The Cobras were ranked as high as No. 23 in the Golfstat national ranking and No. 6 in the regional ranking. The Cobras were also ranked seventh in NCAA Regional rankings. The Navy and Gold finished with a season scoring average of 295.3, the third-lowest season scoring average in Coker men's golf history and the second-lowest in relation to par.

Goins also led the Coker women's golf team to a historical 2016-17 season, notching seven top-ten finishes, four top-five finishes and the program's first-ever tournament title, coming at the Coker Women's Invitational. Junior Angela Luna was named to the All-SAC second team, recording a 78.53 scoring average, which is the lowest season scoring average in Coker women's golf history. As a team, the Navy and Gold finished the 2016-17 season with a 319.3 team scoring average, breaking the previous team scoring average record by nearly 10 shots. 

Under Goins during the 2015-16 season, the Cobra men notched five top-ten finishes, including a third-place finish in the South Atlantic Conference Championship. Junior Will Bundy won the individual title at the SAC Championship tournament, was named second team All-SAC and qualified for NCAA Regionals, being the first individual to do so since 2011. Freshman Wanjoo Lee also made the All-Tournament team at the SAC Championships, finishing in seventh.

On the women’s side, the Navy and Gold had five top-ten finishes including a runner-up finish in the inaugural Coker Women’s Invitational.

Goins joined the Coker staff in January of 2015 as the assistant men’s and women’s golf coach. He was promoted to interim head coach in September of 2015, and was named head coach in May 2016.

A four-year standout golfer and two-time captain at USC Upstate, Goins had a 71.67 stroke average during his senior season to lead the Spartans. He also placed in the top ten in every tournament he played in, and posted seven rounds under par.

A native of Gaffney, S.C., he holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a minor in history from USC Upstate. Goins most recently earned his Master of Science in College Athletic Administration from Coker College.
