Men’s Golf has a Strong Outing Against a Stacked Field
Men have a strong final day against ranked opponents
Greenwood, SC- Coker finished tied for 9th out of 19 teams. There were multiple nationally ranked teams and opponents. The team had two golfers break the top twenty out of 108 competitors. Coker looks to bring it all together to break into the national rankings.
Killian Ryan led the team shooting 68, 73, and 70 for his three rounds finishing in 6th place in a stacked field. Caleb Tidd finished 19th having a strong finish to his rounds as he broke into the top twenty with three rounds of 72, 71, and 73 and finished with a 216 on the day. Fred Tindale shot 76s for his last two rounds. Jonathan Hallinger and Max Barclay helped the team bring in a total score of 874 both shooting 78 and 79. Derek McGlaughlin finished his competition as an individual tying for 67th place.
Coach John Hackney had this to say about the tournament:
"We had a couple of nice individual performances this week. So, it was really disappointing for the team to finish tied for tenth. It was another excellent field of 19 teams but for the third straight tournament, we finished in the middle of the pack.
Senior Killian Ryan, turned in an outstanding performance, firing rounds of 68-73-70. His five-under total tied for 6th and got him on the all-tournament team. Killian finished off Tuesday's final round by birding two of his final three holes.
After a rough week last week, Junior Caleb Tidd had a great bounce back finishing tied for 19th with rounds of 72-71-73 for an Even par total score. Caleb started with a chip-in birdie and finished with a birdie from eight feet in the final round on Tuesday.
Once again, we are just not able to put four good scores on the board for consecutive rounds. We were only one shot behind eventual champion and nationally top-ranked Anderson after the first round, but we just didn't play the pars 5's well enough or convert enough birdie looks to challenge for the title.
I believe in this group and know that the perfect storm is coming sometime this spring and it will all come together."
