Men’s Golf takes on a Stacked Field at the Bearcat Golf Classic
Ryan Killer shoots low at the Classic
Greenwood, SC- Coker headed to Greenwood to compete in a two-day invitational. The Cobras finish the first day strong. The field did not finish the second round today and will finish it in the morning. Coker stands in fourth place out of 19 teams. The team shot 284 one point shy of being tied for second.
Killian Ryan led the Cobras into battle as he finished his first round with an impressive 68 on the first round. Fred Tindale and Caleb Tidd both had an amazing start to the tournament shooting 71 and 72 through the challenging 18 holes. Max Barclay and Jonathan Hallinger rounded out the Cobras' five with a 73 and 75 to help the team finish strong. Derek McGlaughlin competed as an individual and had his best 36 holes as a Cobra, carding 72-74--146.
Coach Hackney had this to say about the day:
"We got off to a solid start in the 1st round today, kind of leveled off in the middle of the round and then got really hot down the stretch to shoot a 4-under 284, which put us in 4th place just 6 shots behind host Lander.
Killian really caught fire at the end of his round with birdies on 17, 18, 1. and 3 to shoot 68. He had six birdies in his round. We were 9-under on our last five holes, which helped us rocket up the leaderboard. We were only 1 back of nationally No. 1-ranked Anderson after 18 holes, thanks to 17 birdies. We also did a nice job of avoiding any big numbers.
We started our second round slowly but steadied the ship, so we are 7th of 19 schools heading into the final 18. Only Fred Tindale did not finish for us. His group, and two others, have one hole to finish round two in the morning. Caleb Tidd had our best second round at 71 with three birdies. He hit 12 fairways and 14 greens.
We only had five 3-putts in 10 rounds Monday but we misfired too many times for birdie when we were inside 15 feet. When we sink more of those tomorrow we will be able to pass up some teams to record a high finish in this loaded field."
