TOCCOA FALLS, Ga. - Coker University men's golf finished up play at the Currahee Classic on Tuesday (Oct. 25) at Currahee Golf Club.
The Cobras played rounds two and three today, after day one was cut short due to darkness yesterday.
Fred Tindale finished tied for 11th individually after shooting a 70 in round two and a 73 in round three, Killian Ryan finished tied for 21st with a 74 in round two and a 73 in round three. Jonathan Hallinger finished tied for 25th after turning in a 70 in round two and a 71 in round three, while Derek McGlaughlin improved his score from yesterday shooting 78 in round two and 77 in round three. Caleb Tidd turned in an 81 in the second round as well.
"I thought we played okay considering we pretty much played the event with only four players," said head coach John Hackney. We didn't have a drop score really in any round. If you look at the results we had Fred at 11th, Killian at 21st and Johnny at 25th so we had three players in the top 25 in a high-quality field. Unfortunately we didn't have two good scores in the first round and that really hurt us. We had pretty good scores in the last two rounds to finish ninth place. Fred had an outstanding tournament. His ball striking was awesome. He had 41 pars, six birdies and seven bogeys. He had no doubles, which was excellent on this course. Killian had five birdies in the third round and Johnny, Fred and Derek had three apiece, but as was the case in the other two rounds, just a few doubles really hurt our team score and a chance to finish higher in the standings. Still, it was an excellent fall for the guys and I can't wait to see what we're gonna do in the springtime. We have a very high-level team."
This concludes the Fall 2022 men's golf season. The Spring 2023 season begins on Feb. 13-14 at the Spring Kickoff at St. John's Golf Club in St. Augustine, Fla.
