TOCCOA FALLS, Ga. - Coker University men's golf competed at day one of the Currahee Classic on Monday (Oct. 24).
Round two could not be completed today due to darkness. Round two will be completed tomorrow (Tuesday, Oct. 25) before round three is played.
Killian Ryan leads the way being tied for 16th individually after shooting a 73, while Fred Tindale is also tied for 20th individually with a 74. Jonathan Hallinger turned in an 80 for the day, while Derek McGlaughlin also carded an 81.
"We were a little behind the eight ball early on today since Caleb hurt his back," said head coach John Hackney. "He toughed it out through nine holes but then we had to withdraw him and let him see the athletic trainer for a couple of hours. That left us with no drop score which is tough on a difficult track. Killian had an excellent first round, making two birdies on his final two holes to shoot 73 and Fred was very very steady with 16 pars and just two bogeys in his first round of 74. Johnny had one real big hole that hurt him and Derek struggled down the finish so that left us pretty far down the leaderboard. However, we are playing really well in the afternoon through nine holes. We have Johnny at five under, Fred at three under, Killian at onne over and Caleb is just two over despite really battling his back problems. He is really stepping up for his teammates despite playing in pain. We're gonna have to play another 27 holes tomorrow so there's a lot of golf left, and we're making our move upward."
The Cobras return to the course tomorrow (Tuesday, Oct. 25) to complete round two and play round three. Play resumes with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start.
