Cobras in the Lead, Hallinger in First Individually After Day One of the Camden Collegiate

CAMDEN, S.C. - The Coker University men’s golf team sits at the top of the team leaderboard while Jonathan Hallinger leads individually after one day of the Camden Collegiate on Monday (Oct. 3) at Camden Country Club.

CAMDEN, S.C. - The Coker University men's golf team sits at the top of the team leaderboard while Jonathan Hallinger leads individually after one day of the Camden Collegiate on Monday (Oct. 3) at Camden Country Club.

Hallinger posted an even-par 70 in round one, before shooting a 65 (-5) in the second round, which is one off the school-record low round (Christopher Marsh, 2008-09, 64). Hallinger's 36-hole total of 135 is just two strokes off of Marsh's school-record 133 from the Kiawah Island Invitational during the 2008-09 season. Caleb Tidd (71, 74, 145) and Fred Tindale (75, 70, 145) each finished in a tie for 18th individually, while Maximilan Barclay finished in a tie for 25th individually with a 71 and a 76. Killian Ryan posted rounds of 72 and 77 to land in a tie for 30th individually. Derek McGlaughlin shot an 82 and a 70 to land in a tie for 43rd individually. JJ Cots turned in an 83 and a 72 for the day, while Blake Weatherford turned in an 80 and an 86 and Seth Evans carded an 86 and an 84.

"The guys really had a great day out there at Camden," said head coach John Hackney. "We are right where we want to be, at the top of the leaderboard. It was one of those days where everybody contributed during the 36 holes. Of course, the highlight of the day was Johnny's bogey-free 65, which is an incredible score in windy conditions on those slick Donald Ross greens. Johnny's iron play was spot-on all day as he hit his approaches inside 15 feet on 18 of 36 holes. Fred and Caleb had solid days and I was really proud of Derek for how he bounced back from a poor first round with an even-par second round. Killian was steady on his first 18 and we expect he will rise to the occasion tomorrow with a stellar round. Individually, it was great to see Max Barclay card 6 birdies and a round of 70 in his collegiate debut for the Cobras and to see senior JJ Cots card a 2-over 72 on the second 18. A big shout-out to assistant coach Dan Schmotzer for leading the guys this week. The plan is to stay smart, yet aggressive and seize the title!"

The Cobras return to the course tomorrow (Tuesday, Oct. 4) to wrap up the tournament. First tee is set for 9:00 a.m., with live results available at www.cokercobras.com.
