NORMAN, Okla. - Coker University men's golf juniors JJ Cots and Fred Tindale were named 2020-21 Division II All-American Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America, announced by the organization today (Friday, July 30). The award is presented by Srixon and Cleveland Golf.

To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 40-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, under 78.0 in NCAA Division II, under 79.0 in NCAA Division III, under 78.0 in NAIA, and under 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

Cots played in four tournaments and 11 rounds as a sophomore in 2020-21. He finished tied for 15th individually at the CIU Invitational (Feb. 22-23) with scores of 80 and 77 in his best individual performance of the year. Academically, he was named to the 2020-21 South Atlantic Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll.

This is Cots's first career All-American Scholar honor. The Caracas, Venezuela native is the son of Juan and Patricia Cots, and is a sports management major with a cumulative 3.51 GPA.

Tindale played in five tournaments and 14 rounds in 2020-21 and averaged a score of 74.14. He finished tied for first at the CIU Invitational (Feb. 22-23) with scores of 71 and 75 in his best performance of the season. Academically, he was named to the 2020-21 South Atlantic Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll.

This is Tindale's first career All-American Scholar honor. The Nottingham, U.K. native is the son of Patrick and Allison, and is an exercise science major with a cumulative 3.96 GPA.
