Coker Wins CIU Invitational as Four Place in Top 5

COLUMBIA, S.C.- After two rounds of play at Columbia Country Club, the Coker men's golf team was crowned champion of the CIU Spring Invitational on Tuesday (Feb. 23). Finishing with a combined team score of 599 (+23) for the tournament, Coker outlasted second-place Columbia International by two strokes to claim the victory.   

Coker sought out to defend their first place spot going into round two, and did just that. The Cobras had four place inside the top five overall. 

After a stellar opening round, Fred Tindale finished in second place after a scorecard playoff. Tindale shot 75 (+3) on the day and 146 overall. Both Caleb Tidd and Coleman Bess tied for third overall. Tidd shot 77 (+5) on the day and 151 overall, while Bess finished the day at 79 (+7) and 151 overall. Killian Ryan shot 76 (+4) on the day and 152 overall. Jonathan Hallinger finished 18th for Coker, shooting 78 (+6) on the day, beating his day one score by two strokes. Hallinger finished with a score of 158 overall. 

Individually Juan Jose Cots finished in 15th, shooting a 77 (+5) on the day and 157 overall. Frans Axelsson finished in 44th place shooting a 90 (+18) for the day and 173 overall.  

The Cobras will hit the links again (Mar. 8-9) when they will compete in the Bearcat Classic at the Links at Stony Point in Greenwood, S.C.
