Bio

In Bearer's first season with the Cobras, he helped coach Coker to a 15-14 overall, with an 11-9 record in South Atlantic Conference play. Bearer was able to assist in helping the Cobras to the first round of the South Atlantic Conference tournament vs. Catawba. Bearer was able to help in the coaching of Andre Leavell, who was named Newcomer of the Year, was selected on the South Atlantic Conference All-Conference first team, and led the conference in points & assists per game. In addition to his conference achivements, Leavell also broke the single game record for most points in a game scoring 42 points vs. Emory & Henry on February 2, 2024. Bearer also assisted coaching Hayden Abdullah, who was named to the All-Freshman team for the South Atlantic Conference and who led the conference in blocked shots per game. As a team the Cobras were able to lead the South Atlantic Conference in points per game, which broke the school record, and was also ranked 3rd in the nation, averaging 100.1 points per game. Coker was also able to break the record for most points scored in a single game with 120 vs. Mars Hill, on January 11, 2024, as well as breaking the record for most three point field goals in a game with 19 vs. Newberry on March 2, 2024.

Greg Bearer has joined the Coker University men's basketball coaching staff. He comes to Coker from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), where he served as an assistant coach and was also a former player.

During his time as an assistant at IUP, Bearer played a crucial role in the team's success. He helped the program achieve an impressive 32-2 record and maintain the top ranking in Division II for seven weeks. Bearer also played a part in the team's victory in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championship.

Bearer's impact on the team extended beyond coaching, as he helped develop multiple players who received All-Conference, All-Region, and All-American selections.

During the 2018-19 season when he was a player himself, Bearer started in 25 games for IUP. His contributions were vital to the team's overall success.

With his experience as both a player and coach, Bearer brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the Coker University men's basketball program. His addition to the coaching staff is expected to have a positive impact on the team's performance.
