HOW IT HAPPENED:
For the third consecutive game, Sebastian Cole got the scoring started for the Cobras when he dropped in a jumper Wednesday night. It was Newberry though that held the early lead through the first few minutes, leading 15-14 with a little over 12 minutes remaining. The Wolves were able to keep the Cobras high powered offense at bay throughout the first half, as they forced Coker into a 37.8 percent shooting percentage throughout the first half.
Judson Coan was responsible for keeping the Cobras in the game early though. The junior poured in 12 first half points, adding 2 three pointers to help Coker weather the Newberry run early. With three minutes remaining in the first half, Coan and Cole connected on three made baskets, a majority on backdoor cuts to help Coker only trail by one at the half. Coan made the last 11 points for Coker in the first half.
At the break, Coker shot just 30.4 percent behind the line, but were able to hold Newberry to just two three point field goals. Coker forced the Wolves into nine first half turnovers, as Coker assisted on 11 baskets. Glenn Bynum Jr. added seven first half points, and Cole dished out a game high five assists. Jamie Muldowney also made two three pointers in the first half.
In the second half, Coker found themselves doing what they have consistently done over the course of their winning streak. They went on an early second half run. The Cobras found themselves leading by seven with 13 minutes remaining after Logan Murray and Jamie Muldowney made back to back three pointers. The Cobras never gave that lead back to Newberry.
With eight minutes remaining, Bynum Jr. made a three pointer to give Coker a 68-57 lead. After a media timeout, Newberry began to close the gap. Coker lead by just six with five minutes remaining, as the Wolves continued to fight. Over the course of the final four minutes, it was Coker making timely shot time and time again. That trend started with Sebastian Cole making a turnaround fade away. Newberry closed the Coker lead to three with just two minutes remaining, but it was the senior, Bynum Jr. draining a deep three to extend Coker's lead once more. The Cobras were able to close the game out after that, making free throws down the stetch, and closed out the Wolves 82-72.
