HOW IT HAPPENED:
In what turned out to be a low scoring first half for the Cobras, Limestone jumped out to an early 7-0 lead Saturday afternoon before Ian Blue made a three pointer two minutes in to settle Coker in to the flow of things. Blue then made a second jump shot, before Coker made their platoon swap of players that led into the media timeout. At the first break, Coker was trailing 10-5.
Out of the first timeout, it was the Saints going on another run, as they extended their lead to 20-6 with 12 minutes remaining in the first half. The Saints defense gave Coker a tough time early, as they swarmed the ball defensively. At the final media timeout of the first half, Coker found themselves trailing 40-26. Max Hurray and Judson Coan quickly made baskets out of the break, and Landon Butler added two free throws, as Coker had quickly cut the lead down to 7, forcing Limestone into a timeout. Following the timeout, Jamie Muldowney continued to cut into the lead adding a layup on a great pass from Xavier Harris, and Coker trailed by just five. That basket took the Cobras into the half, as they trailed 40-35.
Coker started off the second half just as they ended the first, as Glenn Bynum Jr. drained a three right out of the break. Following a quick turnover by the Saints, Bynum Jr. quickly raced down and hit another three, giving Coker their first lead of the game at 41-40. By the time the two made it to the first media timeout, Coker had extended its lead to 49-42, captivating a 14-2 run.
Limestone responded quickly, bringing the game to within five with a little over 12 minutes remaining in the half. Bynum Jr. then hit yet another three pointer followed by a Sebastian Cole layup to quickly push Coker's lead back out. Judson Coan followed the Cole layup with back to back layups of his own, and Coker quickly found themselves leading by 14 after trailing the entire first half.
The Cobras didn't allow Limestone to bring the game within ten points until the three minute mark when the Saints made two free throws to cut Coker's lead to nine. Cole then burried a three with a little more than two mintes remaining, seemingly puting the game out of reach. Coker made their free throws down the stretch, and eventually beat Limestone for the second time with a final of 93-83.
