Men's Basketball Breaks 130 Points, Takes Down Mars Hill

MARS HILL, NC. - Coker explodes on offense Saturday afternoon, takes down Mars Hill 131-117. Cobras have balanced attack, get back into the win column.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Mars Hill jumped out to an early 5 to 0 lead Saturday afternoon, as they handled the Cobras pressure their first two possessions. Ian Blue got the Cobras on the board with a three of his own to settle the Cobras in. Judson Coan then followed that up with a a layup, and quickly tied the game up at 5. Jonah Vaysbakh checked in with the second unit, and sparked the Cobras. The Freshman hurried back to back buckets to quickly score five points, giving Coker the lead with 15 minutes remaining in the half. 

After the first ten minutes of play had gone by, Coker was holding onto a 31 to 27 lead. Vaysbakh quickly made that 33, followed by a Max Hurray triple to extend the lead. The Lions continued to fight back, tying the game with seven minutes remaining.

Sebastian Cole then started to heat up for the Cobras. The senior drained two three pointers, sandwiched by a Xavier Moultrie layup. After a line change, Coker continued to extend the lead, going on a 18 to 5 run with a little over three minutes remaining in the half. The Lions continued to battle over the course of the reaming three minutes, and at the halves end Coker held a 69 to 58 lead into the break.

Coker exploded out of the half, going on a 19 to 8 run in the first four minutes to take a commanding 89 to 68 lead at the first media timeout. The difference maker in this run was the Cobras defense causing numerous turnovers. Coker also made three consecutive layups to kick start the run. 

Over the course of the next eight minutes, Coker continued to pour it on. Ian Blue and Max Hurray recorded back to back layups before Blue buried a three pointer to give Coker a 19 point lead at 99 to 80. 

The trio of Ian Blue, Glenn Bynum Jr., and Sebastian Cole scored multiple baskets in a row for the Cobras, and by the time the game was at the under eight media timeout, the three had combined for 53 points. Coker continued to hold their lead the remainder of the game, and coasted to a 131 to 117 win.

Coker's Ian Blue, Jonah Vaysbakh, Sebastian Cole, Glenn Bynum Jr., Landon Butler, Jamie Muldowney, and Max Hurray all scored in double figures. The Cobras shot an outstanding 53.1 percent from the field on the night, while pouring in 43.9 percent from three.
