Cobras Cruise Past Mars Hill to Open South Atlantic Conference Play

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker University men’s basketball team cruised past Mars Hill 102-82 to open South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday (Nov. 20). The Cobras eclipsed the century mark for the first time in the Jarred Merrill era.

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker University men's basketball team cruised past Mars Hill 102-82 to open South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday (Nov. 20). The Cobras eclipsed the century mark for the first time in the Jarred Merrill era.

The teams played to a 12-12 deadlock at through five minutes, before the Cobras would push ahead by double digits with 11 minutes to play in the half. The Lions would rally within three with five minutes to play in the half, before Coker would ultimately take a five-point lead to the break at 44-39.

Coker increased its lead to 10 through three minutes in the second half, before increasing its double-digit lead over the next few minutes. The Cobras would hold the 20-point lead at the final horn to secure the South Atlantic Conference victory.

Coker shot 63.2 percent from the field in the contest, including 13 three-pointers. Malcolm Kennedy led the Cobras with a game-high 25 points on seven three-pointers, while Jahnarious Snell posted a career-high 20 points and Williams Onyeodi also added 19 on the night. Seven other Cobras scored in the win. Coker out-rebounded Mars Hill 29-20 in the game, led by six boards from Onyeodi. Nine other Cobras were active in the rebounding effort in the game. Lindsey dished out a career-high 10 assists in the game, while five others helped on Coker buckets in the game. Onyeodi and Lindsey each registered three steals in the game along with four others logging one each. Kennedy also posted Coker's lone block in the game.

The Cobras return to the hardwood on Tuesday (Nov. 23) to host Lenoir-Rhyne in South Atlantic Conference action. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. from the DeLoach Center, with video and live stats available at www.cokercobras.com.
