Men's Basketball Falls in Opening Round of the Pilot/Flying J South Atlantic Conference Tournament

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Coker University men's basketball team fell at Anderson (S.C.) in the opening round of the Pilot/Flying J South Atlantic Conference tournament on Saturday (Feb. 27) by a score of 71-61.

The teams played to a 5-5 tie through three minutes, before the Cobras went on a run to go ahead 15-9 at the under-12 media timeout. The Cobras extended their lead into double digits over the next few minutes, taking a 35-25 lead to the half.

The teams went back and forth over the first few minutes of the second half, before Anderson would rally all the way back to take a 43-42 lead seven minutes into the period. Anderson went on a run to go ahead 58-48 with seven and a half minutes to play, before the Cobras would get back within six with three minutes to play. The Trojans would extend their lead back to 10 in the final minute to take the tournament victory.

Coker shot 40.8 percent in the game, aided by four three-pointers. Christopher Fordham led the Cobras  with a career-high 16 points, while Courtney Murrell Jr. added 13 points and Anderson Keller chipped in 11. Four other Cobras contributed points in the game. Coker out-rebounded Anderson 34-32, led by eight boards from Keller. Six other Cobras were active on the glass in the game. Murrell dished out a team-high four assists in the game, while four others helped on Coker buckets in the contest. Fordham recorded a team-high two steals, while Anthony Thomas and Murrell each had one.

This concludes the 2020-21 men's basketball season.
