Men's Basketball Falls in Close Conference Contest at Anderson (S.C.) on Saturday

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Coker University men's basketball team fell in a close South Atlantic Conference contest at Anderson (S.C.) on Saturday (Jan. 30) by a score of 67-63.

Coker went ahead 9-4 in the first four minutes, before the teams eventually played to a 13-13 deadlock through six and a half minutes. The Trojans would build a seven-point lead with nine minutes to play in the half, before the Cobras would storm back and take a 26-25 lead with three minutes to play in the first. The teams locked up at 28-28 with two minutes to play in the half, before Coker would take a 31-30 lead to the break.

The teams played to a 33-33 tie through the first minute and change of the second half, before Anderson took a six-point lead five minutes into the period. Coker's deficit would fluctuate over the next few minutes, before the Cobras got within one at 52-51 with 10 minutes to play. The teams would eventually play to deadlocks at 58-58 and 60-60, before Anderson scored on two of its three next possessions to take a 65-60 lead. Anthony Thomas would knock down a three-pointer to get back within two, before the Cobras were unable to get the tying bucket in the final seconds.

Coker shot 48.1 percent from the field in the game, including seven three-pointers. Anderson Keller tied a Coker career-high with 16 points, while Chandler Lindsey also scored 16 points off the bench.  Six other Cobras contributed points in the game. Christopher Fordham and Keller each pulled down six rebounds in the game, while four other Cobras were active on the glass. Fordham and Lindsey each dished out two assists in the game, while Jordan Jones, Seth Bennett and Keller each helped on one Cobra bucket. Fordham paced the Cobras with four steals in the game, while Jones also registered three steals in the game and Keller, Lindsey and Thomas each recorded one. Malcolm Kennedy posted the lone rejection in the game for Coker.

The Cobras return to action on Monday (Feb. 1) at Catawba in South Atlantic Conference action. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. from Salisbury, N.C., with video and live stats available at www.cokercobras.com.
