Men's Basketball Falls to No. 19/20 Queens (N.C.) on Monday

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker University men's basketball team fell to No. 19/20 Queens (N.C.) on Monday (Jan. 4) in South Atlantic Conference action by a score of 73-63.

The teams played to a 10-10 deadlock through the first eight minutes, before a 12-3 Royals run over the next five minutes put Queens ahead by nine at the under-eight media timeout. The Royals would build on their double-digit lead in the remainder of the half, taking a 37-15 lead to the break. 

The Royals maintained their double-digit lead in the second half, although the Cobras did out-score the Royals 48-36 in the second period.

The Cobras shot 39.3 percent (24-61) in the contest, aided by 10 three-pointers. Anthony Thomas paced the Cobras with a career and game-high 22 points, while completing his first career double-double with a team-high 10 rebounds. Malcolm Kennedy also contributed 15 points in the game, while four others also added points in the game. Courtney Murrell, Jr. nearly missed his first career double-double with nine points and nine rebounds, while five other Cobras were active on the glass. Murrell, Kennedy and Seth Bennett each dished out a team-high three assists, while Chandler Lindsey and Thomas each also helped on two Coker buckets. Lindsey led the Cobras with three steals, while Murrell posted two steals and Kennedy and Thomas each had one.

The Cobras return to action on Wednesday (Jan. 6) to host Limestone in South Atlantic Conference action. Tip-off is set for approximately 8:00 p.m. from the DeLoach Center, with video and live stats available at www.cokercobras.com.
