Coker Takes Down Lander For First Conference Win
Camille Berger nets her first goal of the year to help Coker pick up their first SAC win of the year.
Hartsville, SC. - Camille Berger received a perfect ball from Kaiya Sabur late in the third quarter and put it into the back of the net to give Coker a 2-1 win over Lander. Sabur, who had a hat trick Tuesday night, followed up that performance with two assists tonight. Emma Reininga was phenominal in goal turning away multiple late goal opportunities to help Coker earn their first conference win.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
With a little over a minute left in the first quarter, Kaiya Sabur continued her special play over the week when she put a perfect ball into Skylar Ponik's stick that she deposited into the back of the net to give Coker a 1-0 lead.
Lauren Punt responded in the second quarter with a goal of her own to knot the score at one.
Emma Reininga was spectacular in the goal for Coker all night, saving goals time and time again to keep the Cobras in the game. The first of these saves came with less than a minute in the first quarter. The stop kept the score at one heading into the half.
After the two teams traded opportunities in the third, it was Sabur again playing a through ball to Camille Berger, who played a perfect shot into the goal to give Coker a 2-1 lead.
With 15 minutes left on the clock, the Cobras looked at an exceptional turnaround, after losing to Lander earlier in the season 5-0.
The fourth quarter was full of heroics from Reininga. The first two saves came back to back two minutes in when Coker was playing a player down after a green card.
With four minutes left in the match, Lander played a great ball to Victoria Hulst who ripped a shot at the goal, but it was Reininga who made a swift move reaching out and batting the ball down at the last second to keep the game at a one goal lead in favor of Coker.
As the clock struck 0, Coker jumped with excitment, as they had avenged their earlier loss of the season to the Bearcats.
Lander outshot Coker on the night 20 to 5, but it was the Cobras who took full advantage of their chances.
Reininga saved nine goals on the night, while only allowing one goal.
