Cobras Complete Season Sweep with 4-1 Win at Converse on Sunday

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Coker University field hockey team completed its season sweep over Converse with a 4-1 win on the road on Sunday (Oct. 21). 

Coker out-shot Converse 4-1 in the opening quarter, and also earned the frame's only penalty corner. At 6:51 of the first quarter, Kaleigh Cordrey scored her fourth goal of the season to give the Cobras a 1-0 lead. 

Converse would tie the game five minutes into the second quarter, when Morgan Berndt scored from Teana Maloney. The teams would head to the half tied 1-1. 

Coker would control the third quarter by scoring two goals to take a 4-1 lead to the fourth. 6:52 into the quarter, Lisa Rempt would score from Britt Kabo to give Coker a 2-1 lead. With a minute and a half to play in the frame, Cordrey would score her second of the game assisted by Kabo to stretch Coker's lead to 3-1. 

Kabo tacked on a late goal in the fourth quarter off an assist from Rempt to put the game at its final score. 

Cordrey scored twice, while Rempt and Kabo each scored once. Kabo and Rempt also assisted on goals in the game. Coker out-shot Converse 22-3, including 18-3 in shots on goal. Cordrey and Rempt each fired six shots in the contest, while Kelly Mason registered four shots in the contest. Kabo recorded three shots, while Alyssa Baronella-O'Toole also posted two shots in the game. Humphreys also chipped in one shot in the game. Coker also earned eight penalty corners to Converse's two. Kelsey Gibbons (5-2) earned the win between the pipes, making two saves. 

The Cobras (8-5, 5-4 South Atlantic Conference Carolinas) are back in action Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 22) to wrap up the season series against Queens (N.C.) in Charlotte, N.C. The action is set for a 3:00 p.m. start.
