Cobras Edge Pace in Overtime on Sunday

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - The Coker University field hockey team edged Pace University 2-1 in overtime on Sunday (Oct. 6) to start its two-game road swing in New York. 

 The first quarter was scoreless, with Coker out-shooting Pace 4-0 and also earning six penalty corners to Pace's one. The second quarter appeared to be ending scoreless as well, before the Setters would break through with just nine seconds left in the half to score the game's first goal. Danielle Merante scored from Mia Lennon to give Pace a 1-0 lead at the half. Each team registered five shots in the second quarter, with Pace doubling up Coker in penalty corners 6-3 in the frame. 

At 7:21 of the third quarter, Alyssa Baronella O'Toole would score unassisted to knot the game at one-all. A scoreless fourth quarter would send the game to overtime, with Coker winning the battle in shots 3-2 and the battle in penalty corners 4-2 in the quarter. Coker would break through on its second shot in the overtime period at 5:41, with the unassisted winner off the stick of Britt Kabo

In total, Coker out-shot Pace 21-13 and edged the Setters in penalty corners 17-16. Baronella O'Toole and Kabo registerd goals for Coker, while Lisa Rempt led the team with seven total shots and four of them on goal. Baronella-O'Toole and Kabo each registered four shots in the game, with three of Kabo's finding frame and two of Baronella-O'Toole's being on target. Kelly Mason and Ameila Gajewski each fired two shots with one on cage, while Ellie Mead and Kiarra Rivera each recorded one shot in the contest. Kelsey Gibbons (2-2) earned the win between the pipes, making five saves. 

Coker (5-5) is back in action tomorrow (Monday, Oct. 7) when they travel to Molloy College to take on the Lions. The action is set to begin at 4:00 p.m., with video and live stats at www.cokercobras.com.
