Coker Tops St. Edwards in Hearthstone 3-2 on Monday

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker University Esports team defeated St. Edwards 3-2 in Hearthstone on Monday (Oct. 7).

The Cobras faced off against St. Edward's University today in Week 4 of the Tespa Fall Championship. Both teams came in at 3-0, with Coker ranked sixth in the South and St. Edwards ranked ninth. The match started off with Coker's Secret Hunter deck against  St. Edwards' Quest Shaman. Coker was able to get an early board and SEU was unable to answer it, giving Coker the first win. Next up, Coker decided to go with their Mech Paladin while SEU went with Zoo Warlock. This time the roles were reversed as SEU was able to get control of the board and Coker was unable to do the same. With the matchup 1-1, the next round was Coker's Mech Paladin versus St. Edwards' Control Warrior. After two quick matches, the third went longer than the first two combined. This long match favored SEU as they were able to take their second win. On match point Coker was forced to win two in a row and decided to once again use their Mech Paladin against  St. Edwards' Quest Shaman. This time, Coker was able to make a giant mech that SEU was unable to deal with to equalize the match. The fifth and final round came down to a Quest Shaman mirror. Coker was able to finish their quest on turn five, which gave a huge tempo advantage as SEU took two additional turns to finish their quest. This tempo advantage gave Coker the control of the board and put a lot of damage to SEU. Just as it looked like SEU might have been able to take control of the game back, Coker was able to find lethal to win the match 3-2.

With this win Coker is now ranked No. 1 in the South. Next week, Coker will face off against another 4-0 team with a win guaranteeing playoffs. The matches can be viewed on the team's Twitch account at www.twitch.tv/cokeresports
