HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker College esports Hearthstone team played their debut match against the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. The Cobras brought their Deathrattle Hunter, Tempo Mage, and Token Druid. The Tar Heels brought Odd Warrior, Odd Rouge, and Shudderwok Shaman. The match was a best of five conquest match, where the first team to win with each of their decks won the match.

The first game was an unfavorable matchup between Coker's Tempo Mage and UNC's Odd Warrior, which led to a decisive defeat for the Cobras. The second game between Coker's Tempo Mage and UNC's Odd Rogue also looked like a quick defeat for the Cobras, but they gained value from their Stargazer Luna to win the second game. The third match was between Coker's Token Druid deck and UNC's Odd Rogue, which is heavily favored for the Druid. The Cobras played the match well and won their second game.

All that was left was Coker's Deathrattle Hunter and the next game was yet again against UNC's Odd Rogue. UNC jumped out to an early lead and won the game in only eight turns. The final match was against UNC's Shudderwok Shaman and was by far the closest and longest duel. After 20 minutes of back and forth play, UNC was able to find lethal with a Bloodlust, defeating the Cobras 3-2. The Hearthstone team's next match will be on Monday (Oct. 8) at 8PM.
