HOW IT HAPPENED
G1:
Two big innings propelled Coker to a game one victory over Anderson in game one Friday night. The Cobras plated five in the third inning, and four in the fifth to take a 9-5 opening series win.
After two clean innings on both sides, the third inning is where the Cobra began to find success. Hunter Poole got the scoring started with a single, scoring Gavin Edens to plate the first run of the night. Three batters later, Rocco Wojcik added two more with a single to left field of his own, and Coker quickly led by three. The Cobras added two more runs throughout the inning on aggressive base running, and at the innings end, Coker held a 5-0 advantage.
After a quick fourth inning, Coker exploded once more in the fifth. Wojcik started the inning off with a single, and quickly did damage on the base paths. After a failed pickoff, Wojcik quickly made it to third, and then a wild pitch brought him home. The Cobras added more insurance runs courtesy of Gavin Edens and Hunter Poole, leading 9-0.
That was all the pitching staff between Casey Cleghorn and Britton Adams would need. The duo allowed just five runs on 10 hits on the night, keeping the Trojans damage to a minimum. Cleghorn earned the win on the night, with Adams picking up another save on the season.
G2:
Coker struck first in game two, when they scored two runs in the top half of the second inning. Hunter Poole continued to stay hot at the plate, roping a single to start the inning. Alex Lazar then singled to plate Poole. A batter later Gavin Edens brought in Luke Alford, giving Coker a 2-0 lead.
The Trojans quickly responded in the bottom half plating six runs to take a commanding 6-2 lead into the third.
Coker chipped away at the Anderson lead in the fourth and sixth inning, scoring one run in each. Alex Lazar doubled in Hunter Poole in the 4th inning, and plated Connor Wood in the sixth with a sacrifice fly to make the Anderson lead 6-4 in the 6th.
The Cobras later plated one more run to make it a one run game, but it was the Trojans fending off Coker to take game two by a score of 6-5, forcing the rubber match.
G3:
Anderson struck first in game three, scoring four runs in the bottom of the third inning. Coker then did what they have done time and time again once more. Coker plated atleast one run over the course of the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to dominate the Trojans over the remainder of the day to take game three 13-4, winning the series.
The seventh inning is when Coker broke the tie, but they didn't stop after the first run. Coker plated nine in the inning on five hits. Ick Cirino and Jaylen Mack paced the Cobras at the plate, with Cirino ripping four hits, and Mack three.
Britton Adams was yet again dominant on the mound for Coker in relief. He allowed just one hit over the course of the final three innings, and did not allow a run. The senior kept the Trojans at bay, allowing Coker to come from behind again.
Coker is now tied for fourth place in the SAC standings with two series left on the season.
UP NEXT:
Coker returns to action on Wednesday, when they travel to North Georgia for midweek game.
