HOW IT HAPPENED:
Tuesday afternoons game at Carolina Bank Stadium turned into a pitching masterpiece for both sides. Neither team allowed more than eight hits on the night, and regularly worked quick innings to keep the score at a standstill.
UNC Pembroke broke that standstill in the fifth inning. After an infield single to start the inning, the Braves saw a double to left field plate the first run of the game. This was the only run that the Cobras starter Graham Whittle allowed all night in his 5.1 innings of work.
The Cobras best chance of plating their first run of the contest came in the seventh. Hunter Poole recorded a pinch hit single, and Rocco Wojcik followed that up with one of his own. The Braves pitching staff then settled in and struck out the next Coker batter to keep the Cobras off the board.
Over the course of the final two innings, Coker recorded two more singles, but it was the UNC Pembroke pitching staff escaping damage time and time again throughout the evening to take the 1-0 victory.
UP NEXT:
Coker now turns its attention to a weekend series with Carson-Newman. First pitch is slated for Friday night at 6PM.
