HOW IT HAPPENED:
GAME 1:
Friday night the game got off to a slow start with defense showing up on both teams. It wasn't till the 3 inning that the Saints got on the scoreboard.
Over the 3,4, and 5 inning, the Saints could put 3 runs up on the Cobras going into the bottom of the 5th inning. Rocco Wojcik got the Cobras started with a single out to center field. During the next AB Wojcik stole second and got himself into scoring position. After Gavin Edens struck out swinging, Adam Wilkerson got the bats going for the Cobras as he doubled out to right center scoring Wojcik. Ick Cirino got hit by a pitch in the Cobra's next AB. Following the HBP Gabriel Santiago grounded out to the ss putting Wilkerson and Cirino in scoring position. That's all Hunter Poole needed as he hit a single bringing in both Wilkerson and Cirino tying up the game 3-3.
Unfortunately, after a run in the top of the 6th scored for the Saints, the scoring ceased for both teams and the Saints walked away with game 1.
Game 2:
The first game on Saturday was all about the pitching and defense for the Cobras and the Saints.
Aaron Diaz got the Cobras started on the mound. Diaz pitched for 6 innings only allowing 2 hits in that time and allowing no runs to be scored for the Saints.
The Cobras jumped out to an early lead to help take the pressure off Diaz on the mound in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Rocco Wojcik was the first Cobra to get on base after he was walked. Wojcik followed that up by stealing 2nd right before Luke Peterson singled out to right field. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Coach Fico sent Wojcik to steal 3rd base and get runners on the corners. That call proved to be crucial as Cam Ferrell laid down a sacrifice bunt scoring Wojcik.
In the bottom of the 5th, the Cobras scored what would be the winning run. It all started when Hunter Poole singled out to left field. Following Poole, Cirino singled out to center field while Poole was able to get to 3rd. With runners on the corners, Santiago laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Poole to give the Cobras a 2-0 lead.
The pitching came up big for the Cobras to close out this game as Aaron Diaz and Tyler Satterley combined to only allow 4 hits over the 9 innings. Satterley came out as the hero in this game as struck out the 2nd batter for the first out of the inning. Satterley followed that up by sending in some good pitches that the Limestone batters couldn't hit safely as both lined out the Ick Cirino in center field to close out game 2 with a Coker Cobras win.
Game 3:
The second game Saturday saw the Cobras jump out to an early lead in the 2nd inning.
Rocco Wojcik led the Cobras off in the bottom of the second inning as he doubled out to center field. Luke Peterson followed Wojcik as he laid a bunt down the 3rd baseline. The 3rd basemen's throw was late to 1st and missed the 1st basemen as Peterson got to second base and scored Wojcik to give the Cobras a 1-0 lead. Cam Ferrel laid down a SAC bunt to get Peterson to 3rd. After the 2 bunts, the Limestone pitcher walked Gavin Edens to put runners on the Corner. Hunter Poole laid down the 3rd bunt for the Cobras to the pitcher. However instead of throwing Poole out a first the pitch sent the ball home and Peterson was tagged out at home for the 2nd out of the inning. Ick Cirino followed Poole's fielder choice with a single to right field scoring Edens and giving the Corbas an early 2 score lead.
The Saints fought back as they scored 7 between the 3rd and 5th innings.
After the Saints took the 7-2 lead the Cobras started to mount their comeback. In the bottom of the 5th Cirino singled out to right field. Following Cirino's single the Saints walked Santiago changed pitchers and then walked Kyler Odom. With the bases loaded Jaylen Mack hit a grounder out the 3rd base. Mack's hit was very bittersweet as Cirino scored, however the Saints were able to make a triple play.
After the craziness of the 5th inning the Cobras came back out in the bottom of the 6th to add another run to the board. Wojcik started to Cobras off by reaching 1st after an error by the first baseman. In the next AB, the Saints pitcher threw a wild pitch to advance Wojcik to 2nd base. Following the wild pitch the Saints walked Luke Peterson resulting in a pitching change. With the pitching change, Cam Ferrell came up to the plate. Ferrell reached first and advanced Wojcik to 3rd base on a fielder choice but not before Peterson was called out at second base. With Wojcik on 3rd, Gavin Edens stepped up to the plate as he hit a single to the shortstop scoring Wojcik and bringing the Cobras within 3 of the Saints.
However, this is where the scoring ended as the defense of both teams prevailed and the Saints walked away with a game 3 win and the series.
