HOW IT HAPPENED:
G1:
The Cobras jumped out to an early lead Friday night, scoring three runs over the course of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th innings.
That was all starter Casey Cleghorn needed. In the second, Coker scored a run on a groundout from Cameron Ferrell. In the third, the Cobras got going when Gabriel Santiago walked, and Hunter Poole singled. Jaylen Mack then plated Santiago on a single to the shortstop to double the Cobra lead.
The Cobras scored once more in the fourth when Ick Cirino brought home Ferrell. Cleghorn was dominant in the 4th through 8th innings, as he faced the minimum batters in all four innings. He struck out eight in his outing in helping the Cobras win game one.
G2:
Game two saw the Cobras jump out to an earl 2-0 lead in the second inning. Gavin Edens started the rally off with a single, followed by a Luke Keller walk. The Cobras plated both runs in usual fashion, causing the opponent to make plays. After a bases loaded walk, Gabriel Santiago singled to plate the second run.
Britton Adams came on in relief for the Cobras, and was dominant once again. He threw a total of 5.1 innings, striking out seven while not allowing any runs. Rocco Wojcik doubled down the line in the 5th to help Coker extend its lead out to 3-1.
In the seventh and eighth innings, Coker buried the Bulldogs. A Wojcik single was the highlight of the eighth to add two more for the Cobras. The ninth saw Coker plate four runs on just two hits. The Cobras worked multiple walks, and Jaylen Mack delivered a SAC fly.
Coker clinched the series in game two with the 9-1 win.
G3:
Wingate took and early 1-0 lead after one in game three, but the Cobras responded quickly. Ick Cirino started off the second inning with a hit by pitch, and was later brought in by a sacrifice bunt from Cameron Ferrell. The Cobras added two more in the inning courtesy of a Mack double, taking a 3-1 lead.
The Cobras tacked on two more in the third on yet another single from the freshman, Edens. Tyler Satterley came in to start the third inning, and kept the Bulldogs bats at bay. He allowed just one run on two hits in his five innings of work, picking up the win to help the Cobras earn the sweep.
Coker added an insurance run in the fourth when Ick Cirino brought in Hunter Poole, who was hit by a pitch earlier in the inning. Coker allowed just one run over the course of the final six innings, and ultimately took down Wingate in all three games.
UP NEXT:
Coker returns to action Friday when they play host to Limestone. First pitch is set for 6:00PM at Tom J. New Field.
