HOW IT HAPPENED:
G1:
Coker picked up right where they left off Saturday morning, when the Cobras plated three runs in the first inning. The scoring started as Jaylen Mack executed a hit and run play perfectly putting the ball into left field to score Ick Cirino. A batter later, Gabriel Santiago stole home. The senior got a great jump on the pitcher, and by the time he was able to see Santiago, the throw wasn't in time. Coker then scored their final run of the inning courtesy of a Cam Ferrell infield bunt single. The Cobras tacked on another in the bottom of the second and eventually led 4-0 early.
Ohio Dominican quickly responded in the second and third innings. The panthers recorded three runs over the course of the two inning off starting pitcher Aaron Diaz. In the bottom of the third and fourth, Coker put up back to back multi-run innings.
The third inning saw the scoring get started with a Luke Alford single, plating Alex Lazar. Ick Cirino later singled, to help pick up one of his three RBI on the day, and a sacrifice bunt later in the inning, allowed Coker to put up a crooked number.
In the fourth, Luke Peterson, who had three hits in the game, laced a single to left field scoring two, to give Coker a 6-3 lead. Ick Cirino and Gabriel Santiago each picked up RBI in the inning, and a wild pitch helped tack another on.
After getting into a little trouble in the seventh, Coker turned the ball over to Justin Skinnell for the final two innings. The senior was phenomenal on the day, pitching two innings, while striking out three. He surrendered an early base hit, and after that settled in retiring six batters in a row to close out the Panthers in game one.
Coker plated 15 runs on 12 hits in game one, and stole 13 bases as a team.
G2:
While the previous two games prior to game four had been slugfests, game four proved to be different. Coker got on the board early in the first inning when Jaylen Mack hit a sacrifice fly to plate Gabriel Santiago, who walked earlier in the inning. After Cody Chapman worked two quick innings, keeping the Panthers off the scoreboard, the Cobras added another in the second. Cameron Ferrell then scurried home on a wild pitch to help Coker double their lead.
Chapman allowed his first run of the game in the top half of the third. The Panthers plated the run on a single up the middle. Chapman then produced a double play ball that helped strand two runners, ending the inning. Coker added runs three and four in the third, when Jaylen Mack blasted his first home run of the year to left field. His long ball plated Peterson who reached base safely on an error earlier in the inning.
Ohio Dominican continued to show fight in the sixth and seventh innings. They plated a pair in both innings, and eventually had the tying run on third in the seventh. It was Skiler Jackson though who shut the door on the Panthers potential comeback, producing a ground ball to Santiago to end the game.
Cody Chapman earned his first win on the season, while Skiler Jackson picked up his first save.
