HOW IT HAPPENED:
Coker's Graham Whittle got the ball for the Cobras Wednesday night, and worked a quick three batter inning. The freshman produced two ground balls to Hunter Poole at short, and one to Cameron Ferrell at third. In the bottom half of the inning, Coker produced four walks in a row with two outs to scratch the first run of the evening. The bulldogs responded in the second inning when they scored off of two sacrifice hits.
In the bottom of the third, Coker retook the lead. Ick Cirino singled through the left side to start the inning, and then stole second, before ending up on third after a wild pitch. Two batters later, Ian Miller laid down a bunt, and it was Cirino sliding under the tag at home to give Coker the lead back. Cam Ferrell then singled to right field to put the Cobras up 3-1 heading into the fourth.
Whittle continued his dominant start in the fourth with stout defense behind him. After Ferrell's RBI single in the third, he then made back to back web gem plays at third to help Coker work a quick top of the fourth. Graham then came back out in the 5th, working another clean frame, before handing the ball over to Landon Reeves. Whittle kept the Bulldogs off balance all afternoon, throwing 5.0 innings on the day, and allowed just the one run.
The Bulldogs scored one in the top half of the seventh to bring the game within one, and then in the top of the eighth, plated one more. In the ninth, Coker turned the ball to Justin Skinnell who stranded Bulldog runners to give Coker a chance to walk it off.
Kyler Odom led off the bottom of the ninth with a double down the left field line, and after a fielder choice moved him to third, the stage was set. Alex Lazar stepped to the plate with one out, and delivered for the Cobras. His RBI single scored Jack Goldberg who pinch ran for Odom, and the Cobras walked it off.
Justin Skinnell earned the win on the night for the Cobras.
