HOW IT HAPPENED:
Chowan struck first Friday night in the top half of the second inning, and followed that up with three additional runs in the third to take a firm 4-0 lead. Coker responded quickly though. In the bottom half of the third, Coker got on the board when Ick Cirino reached on an error, bringing in Alex Lazar who walked to start the inning. After the next two batters reached safely, Jaylen Mack did what he has done all year. The senior delivered a double to the left field fence bringing in another run. Hunter Poole then brought in an additional run to bring Coker within one at the innings end.
After a quick fourth inning for Aaron Diaz, Coker continued where they left of the inning before. After a Luke Alford single, and two free passes, Ick Cirinio delivered a base knock again. Tristain Hunt then followed Cirino's at bat up with a single of his own to give Coker the lead. By the innings end, Coker led 6 to 4. The Cobras never gave that lead back.
Landon Reeves came in to pitch the fifth and sixth inning for the Cobras and held the Hawks to just one run. Over the course of his two innings he struck out one and allowed just three hits, and forced Chowan to leave runners on in both innings.
In the sixth, Coker plated three more runs to take a demanding 9 to 5 lead. Once again it was the Cobras scoring multiple runs by putting pressure on the defense. Coker worked four free passes in the inning, and once again it was Mack delivering the timely hit.
Freshman Kyle Stock got the ball for the Cobras in the 7th, and was dominant for the second straight outing. In his first inning on the mound, he struck out two to get the Cobras back in the dugout. Coker added another run in the seventh when Alex Lazar singled through the right side scoring Wilkerson.
Stock worked a one, two, three inning in the eighth, and then returned to the mound for the ninth. The freshman found himself in trouble, as Chowan loaded the bases, but stock delivered. He rolled a two out ground ball to Lazar at first base, and Coker took down Chowan 10 to 6.
