Sean Cowley To Have Jersey Retired Saturday
Join us Saturday, October 26th, as Coker will retire the jersey of former student-athlete, Sean Cowley.
Hartsville, SC. - On Saturday, October 26 at 10:45 am, Coker University will honor and remember Sean Cowley, '95 with the retiring of his jersey. Sean played two years for the Cobras and was instrumental in laying the foundation for Coker baseball.
During his time at Coker, Cowley put together a .364 career batting average with 119 hits, 70 runs, 29 doubles, and 60 RBI's. Sean played left field for the Cobras and had a way of knowing where the ball was going. According to Coach Scmotzer, "Sean's most prolific moment was when he hit an opposite field home run at TCU and we won the game 3-1".
Sean was an avid hockey fan and played at Trinity High School in Cleveland, the same high school Coach Schmotzer coached. After high school he spent two years at Lakeland Community College before joining Coach Schmotzer in Hartsville. Sean was a business major who excelled in the classroom. After his two years at Coker he remained on Schmotzer's staff as an assistant coach during the 1995 season and helped guide the team to a 43-15 record.
Cowley was an Account Executive at Spectrum Business and coached the Cleveland Barons 2010 Elite U13 hockey team.
Coach Schmotzer says this about Cowley, "Thank you Sean Cowley for all you did and you gave. You will never be that far away from those Coker baseball daydreams. We remain the luckiest teammates on the face of the Earth for knowing and playing with you. Shine on great one. We love you".
Please join us Saturday, October 26th, when we honor Sean with the retirement of his jersey. The ceremony will begin at 10:45.
