Baseball Takes Down #5 UNC Pembroke
Hartsville, SC- In a thrilling matchup between UNC Pembroke and Coker, the Coker Cobras came out on top with a 6-5 victory. The game was a back-and-forth battle that went down to the wire, with both teams putting up a fight until the very end.
UNC Pembroke got off to a strong start, taking an early 2-0 lead in the second inning. However, Coker quickly responded with a solo home run from Corbin Wright to cut the lead in half. The Cobras continued to chip away at the Braves' lead, scoring a run on a play where Jacob Yarberry stole second, and advanced to third while Wright stole home and scored. In the bottom of the 5th, the Cobras were on the attack again as Ick Cirino scored on a wild pitch. Jaylen Mack grounded out in the same innings and scored Hunter Poole giving the Cobras the lead of 4-2.
UNC Pembroke fought back, tying the game at 4-4 in the eighth inning. S. Faulkner's homer in the ninth inning put the Braves back on top, but Coker rallied in the bottom half of the inning. Nic Curtis's RBI fielder's choice tied the game, and Jaylen Mack scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch stealing home, securing the 6-5 victory for the Cobras.
